3D Areola Tattoo & Reconstruction
Areola tattooing is a paramedical procedure that uses pigment, shading, and colour theory to recreate the natural appearance of the nipple and areola complex. It is a restorative option for people who have undergone mastectomy, breast reconstruction, lumpectomy, or other procedures that have altered the breast. For many, it marks the final step in a long physical and emotional journey, restoring a sense of wholeness and familiarity with their body.
At Resolute Repair, the focus is always on a natural result. Each areola is designed individually, with no standard template or set palette. Colour, shape, size, and placement are determined together during your consultation, drawing on tone matching, anatomical reference, and your own preferences to create something that looks like it has always been there.
What is 3D areola tattoo ?
3D areola tattooing is a paramedical procedure that uses pigment and shading techniques to recreate the appearance of a natural nipple and areola complex. It is most commonly sought by people who have undergone mastectomy, breast reconstruction, or other procedures that have altered or removed the areola. The result is a realistic, three-dimensional illusion that restores the appearance of the breast and can have a significant impact on how a person feels in their body after surgery.
how does it work?
The procedure uses custom mixed pigments applied in layered tones and shading to mimic the natural texture, depth, and colour variation of the areola and nipple. Each result is entirely custom, designed to complement your skin tone, breast shape, and personal preference. During your consultation, we will map out the size, placement, and colour palette together before any work begins. A minimum of two sessions are required to build full colour saturation and detail, with the touch-up session scheduled once the area has fully healed.
cost, eligibility and treatment timeframes.
This service is available to clients who have healed from breast surgery, including mastectomy, reconstruction, or reduction. A minimum healing period is required before tattooing can begin, and this will be assessed during your consultation. Pricing is between $700-$1000, inclusive of both tattoo sessions and a touch-up within 12 months for finer detail refinement.
The tattoo is completed across two sessions spaced six weeks apart, with each session taking approximately two to two and a half hours. Session one establishes the foundation of tone, structure, and shape. Session two refines opacity and overall colour based on how your skin has taken the pigment. It is normal for the result to lighten by 30 to 40 percent from the immediate post-session colour as the skin heals.
After each session the area will feel tender for up to 72 hours and the colour will appear darker than the final result. Light peeling and flaking occurs around days five to ten as the outer skin sheds. Once this resolves the colour will look lighter and possibly patchy, which is normal and continues to settle as the deeper layers of skin heal. The true result is not visible until around four to six weeks post session.
